Dear Main Ingredient Customers,

As the fall blows in the autumn winds, change is in the air. Change has also come to our little store. As we go into our 44th year in business we reflect on what the past 4 decades have brought us. After starting The Main Ingredient in 1979 with a newborn son and a small dream, Deb and I have seen it grow into a prosperous store packed full of thousands of products. It’s been a place where the environmentally conscious and frugal could save on packaging by using reusable containers, or buying only what they need saving on needless waste. We were inspired by what others were doing in places around the world, buying only enough for now and keeping their hard earned money in their pockets and all while investing in the Peterborough marketplace.

We have been overwhelmed by the number of folks who let us serve them (even on our first day!) and became loyal customers. We will always be thankful for every customer who chose to shop local and step through our doors. We’ve always known that we have the BEST customers and Peterborough is the best place to do business.

There comes a time, however, when one must decide to pass on the baton. Deb and I are retiring. We have a lovely couple that have chosen to take on that baton, and they will be introducing themselves very soon. We want to say a BIG thank-you to our amazing staff over the years, and especially our current staff. Barbie, our store manager, and the rest of the crew will still be here to continue serving you with the best products at the best prices in town. We of course will continue on as regular customers, and you might even see us from time to time as we help during this transition time.

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to serve you, laugh and share with you, watch your families grow (and become customers themselves) and sometimes even grieve with you. It has been our privilege and honour.
